Granny square crochet is so much fun, and the possibilities are literally endless, blankets, bags, pillows, scarves, mitts, sweaters, etc. This is a perfect next step class if you've taken Crochet 101. Basic crochet knowledge required: chaining, slip stitch, double crochet. You will learn magic loop, working in the round to make a square, and seamless color changes. Magic No Gauge Socks are an excellent next step in your sock knitting adventures. In this class you will learn how to knit socks from the toe up, magic loop method, using circular needles. The pattern is inclusive of Fingering, DK or Sport weight yarn, even worsted if you wish? However, we suggest beginning with DK yarn and size US 3 needles for first time sock knitters, for ease of handling. This class will teach: Turkish cast on, toe up construction, knitting in the round, short row heel, changing colors, ribbing, the anatomy of the sock and how to knit it. And how to use the Sock Ruler to make any size sock you wish. Basic knitting skills required: Cast on, knit stitch, purl stitch, bind off.

Have you ever wanted to learn how to hand spin animal or vegetable fibers?   Have you ever wanted to design your own yarn for a project?  If yes, this class is for you and is focused on the basics of hand spinning.   We will cover the types of yarn, how different fibers impact the products you can make, understanding twist, staple length, & drafting as well as practicing hand spinning on a drop spindle.  For this class, we will be spinning with merino wool roving.   Merino is easier to learn on and once you have the basics down you can move on to additional animal fibers.  Rob will also demonstrate how roving is made from raw fleece and will also demonstrate spinning on a wheel. We will be working with the Schacht Hi-Lo Drop Spindle that is designed to be more versatile and beginner friendly.   Merino Wool Roving will be available for purchase. 

About the Instructor – Rob Shepherd

Rob is the co-owner of Rolling Rock Ranch Alpacas. Rob has been involved with fiber arts since his childhood. He is currently a hand spinner, dyer, weaver, knitter and crocheter.   He has been raising alpacas with his partner for the last 12+ years. He teaches both hand spinning and fiber dying and is currently doing a lot of knitting.
